The UK government is looking to crack the conundrum of park home residents’ access to heating benefits.
Speaking during Energy and Climate Change Questions, Angus MP Mike Weir pointed out that many residents lost out on the Warm Home Discount of up to £140.
Mr Weirs said: “In many such sites the electricity supply is in the name of the park operator who then sells on the energy to tenants.”
Under the rules of the Warm House Discount, the person claiming it must be named on the bill but because of the circumstances many entitled residents cannot benefit from the scheme.
“This is an issue across Angus where there are several such developments,” said Mr Weir.
“Surely it is not beyond the wit of government to have a system whereby such residents can also get the discount.”
Minister of State at the Department of Energy and Climate Change, Gregory Barker said: “We are determined to try to crack this and we are looking carefully at the point [Mr Weir] makes.”
