Arbroath-based marines welcomed new commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Dan Cheeseman to RM Condor on Friday.
Lieutenant Colonel Cheeseman MBE takes over from Lieutenant Colonel Mike Tanner who will now assume command of Portsmouth Naval Base.
The traditional handover of the 45 Commando Nordic Ski, engraved with the namesof the former commanding officer took place ahead of the unit departing on Christmas leave.
Lieutenant Colonel Cheesman said: “It is a fantastic honour to take command of 45 Commando Group. I look forward to building on the success of my predecessor and furthering the development of our relationships within the local community.
“The Commando will strive to perform at the highest standard; both operationally and locally with the support of the community.”
The men of 45 Commando have spent the previous two years as the UK’s very high readiness commando unit and latterly as the country’s standing task commando, deploying sub-units on tasks around the globe.
Early next year, the unit will begin the training process to return to the very high readiness contingency role in 2015.
