Wafting the mouth-watering aroma of freshly baked goods down Grant Road, Arbroath, is the new look bakery institution, ‘Pie Bob’s’.
North East MSP Alex Johnstone helped cut the ribbon at the opening of ‘Pie Bob’s Bakery’ on Friday 25 following a facelift.
The outside has been spruced up with clear glass patio-style doors replacing the old advertising boards and a full interior renovation.
Proprietor Neil Elford said: “The shop looks fantastic now, and we have had a lot of very positive comments from customers.
“The project cost around £60,000 and was supposed to happen 18 months ago but because of the grief and unrest I have held it back,” Mr Elford added.
The refurbishment was completed ahead of the crunch licence review by Angus Council on whether the bakery can keep a late hours licence.
Mr Elford said the threat of closure could put jobs and his business in jeopardy if it is not granted: “I eventually had to make a decision to go ahead, whether I knew what the licensing committee were going to do or not.
“However, you can’t plan or run a business or move forward on a six-month basis.”
Mr Johnstone said: “I am deeply concerned at the licensing situation and I would suggest that some people have their priorities wrong.”
