The hard work of a pair of members of the Arbroath Ladies’ Lifeboat Guild was recently recognised by the RNLI.

On Thursday (June 12) President Barbara Cargill and secretary Maureen Fulton were given a Gold and Bronze Award respectively at the Scottish annual general meeting of the RNLI in Perth.

Barbara, has been a member of the guild since 1982 and took over the position of president in 2001.

Maureen returned to Arbroath in 2007 to retire after working for 32 years in Shetland and has been kept busy as secretary since 2008.

On the homefront the annual Flag Week fund-raiser is rapidly approaching.

A spokesperson for the guild said: “Instead of our usual door to door collections, it has been agreed that we will concentrate on the main supermarket areas in the town during Friday, June 27, and Saturday, June 28.

“The ladies will be out in profusion rattling the Lifeboat Collection Boxes whilst trying to persuade you to part with your hard earned money. With all the shopping areas being covered it will be hard to miss them! With our new Shannon Lifeboat now a reality and on order, we ask everyone for their continued support in making the 2014 Flag Week a bumper one to remember and build on for the future success of the Arbroath Lifeboat Station.”

Rural collections will be carried out by the usual volunteers.
