Planning applications have been flying thick and fast in Gazette country with two major projects currently being considered.

The first is the possibility of the long-awaited development of the former Eastern Primary School in Broughty Ferry which has been earmarked for development as housing.

An application from TOR Homes is currently being considered by Dundee City Council’s planning department to turn the now empty A-Listed school on Camperdown Street into 26 apartments.

It is understood that much of the development will be internal and result in the creation of mostly two-bedroomed flats.

Barratt Homes have submitted their application for a 300 home development on the outskirts of Monifieth between Ashludie Hospital and the A92.

According to Barratt the proposal put forward presents a long term growth strategy for the town and their design brief stated: “The scale of development proposed would support the long term sustainable growth of the town, providing an integrated masterplanned approach taking a number of years to complete.”

This would include the possibility of new shops, enhanced community facilities, a park and ride, recycling facilities and a number of new green spaces. A number of objections have been raised by the public during the consultation phase, namely issues with the increased pressure on Monifieth infrastructure such as schools, medical care and drainage.
