The reaction online from the skating community to the news that construction will shortly begin on the much-anticipated Arbroath skatepark has been very positive.
Work is expected to get under way soon on the project which has been slated for a site at the West Links near to Kerr’s Miniature Railway.
Chair of the ASP Jillian Low said: “The group has worked tirelessly these last four years. It’s been a long haul, but all the hard work and dogged determination has paid off.”
The online reaction from local skaters and BMXers has been overwhelming, with many enthusiasts, both young and old, taking to the ASP Facebook page.
Scott Moreland wrote: “This skate park is the best thing that’s happened in Arbroath and surrounding areas for the extreme sports community! So often we see play parks being built for younger children everywhere but now it’s our turn and it’s gonna be awesome!”
Greg Swan added: “Over the moon that a very well designed park is coming to Angus! Will bring lots of people from out of town to Arbroath (including me).”
This is not the first time that a skatepark facility has been proposed for Arbroath, but the older generation of skaters are glad it has finally happened.
Billy McKay posted: “I’m 38 and we sat in council meetings 15+ years ago! It’s good to see your hard work and perseverance has come to the end. I know I’ll be using on a daily basis. Well done.”
While Jace Flynn commented: “Being one of the original skaters in Arbroath, back in the mid 80s, this is a long time coming, glad to see it has finally happened.
“At 41 years of age I’ll be using it daily too, well if my body holds up to it that is. Well done to the people who put in the time and effort to make this happen, the effort is much appreciated.”
