Arbroath’s Jayne Burnett will have the honour of carrying the Queen’s baton on the final leg of its journey through the town.
Jayne (22) was nominated as a baton bearer by her former colleagues at Darling’s Coffee Shop, where she worked as a trainee for four months last year.
Darling’s was set up as a social enterprise by ENABLE Scotland – the leading charity for people who have learning disabilities in Scotland.
Darling’s provides ENABLE Scotland members such as Jayne who have a learning disability with the opportunity to develop new skills, boost confidence and increase the potential to secure meaningful employment.
Her traineeship at the award-winning coffee shop helped her secure paid employment at McDonald’s restaurant.
On June 28, she will grasp the baton in Arbroath’s James Street and carry it on to the Abbey, where her fellow ENABLE members will be waiting with a banner to cheer her on.
“I loved my time at Darling’s,” said Jayne. “I am a little bit nervous about carrying the baton, but am very excited. It is a huge honour.”
