Thanks to a generous offer a charity zumbathon event is looking to double their fund-raising for Breakthrough for Breast Cancer.
The Double Zumbathon Challenge has pledged to help a new research programme into breast cancer at Ninewells Hospital and will be running two back to back zumbathons, one in Arbroath and one in Broughty Ferry.
Jillian Low, part of the organising team, said: “A supporter of the charity has pledged to match-fund all money raised for this facility, so there is a real opportunity to raise a fantastic amount for such a worthwhile cause.
“In the last two years we have raised over £11,000 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer by holding similar events in Arbroath.”
The Ninewells research team is led by an eminent breast cancer surgeon at the University of Dundee and the aim of his research is to reduce the extent of surgery required by breast cancer patients and his approach could significantly improve the quality of life post-surgery.
The Double Zumba Challenge is open to all ages and a number of instructors from Angus and Tayside have volunteered their services. It will take place on Sunday, March 9, with the first zumba party being held in Arbroath’s Community Centre from 10 a.m. to 12.15 p.m. before moving to Grove Academy, Broughty Ferry, from 1.45 to 4.30 p.m.
Entry is £5 and sponsorship forms are available from Breakthrough Breast Cancer by calling 08080 100200, search for Dundee and Angus Breakthrough Breast Cancer Supporters on Facebook.
