An Arbroath optician recently donated £300 to help train guide dogs after staff visited the training centre on a fact-finding mission.

Staff from the Abbeygate branch of Specsavers were at the Guide Dogs Training Centre in Forfar to learn more about the charity and to hand over the money raised during Guide Dogs Week in October.

Jamie Buchan, director of Arbroath Specsavers said: “As Guide Dogs is our charity of the year we felt it was important to visit the training centre and learn more about its vital work.”

The Forfar centre is the only guide dog training facility in Scotland and can accommodate up to 100 dogs at a time.

During Guide Dog Week the store donated £1 for every eye test carried out, sold Guide Dog badges and ran a scratch card competition entitled ‘Guess The Puppy’s Name’.

Jamie added: “We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and presentation and we were thrilled to be able to present the charity with a cheque for £300 to help it continue its vital work.”
