A date has finally been set for the closure of Arbroath Sheriff Court with all business moving to Forfar Sheriff Court.
On Friday, May 30, the town’s Sheriff Court will close its doors for good after the Scottish Court Service announced last year it would be one of 11 sheriff courts being axed.
And it has now been confirmed that the end of May will be closing date for the facility.
A campaign had been mounted to save the court as fears were raised witnesses may not be willing to travel to Forfar for cases.
However, it has since been revealed the SCS were looking into plans to set up a video link for vulnerable witnesses.
Concerns have also been raised that the empty building on the High Street would become an eyesore or fall into disrepair.
But both local MSP Graeme Dey and MP Mike Weir have said they are eager to make sure the building does not stand empty for too long.
