A Carmyllie bed and breakfast blazed as firefighters tried to control the roof fire this morning (Tuesday).

Fire crews were called to Croftsmuir Steading at 11.44 a.m. this morning to tackle the flames in the two-storey farmhouse.

No casualties were reported as the occupants had made it to safety before eight firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the dwelling and used two hose reel jets to extinguish the flames.

It is understood that approximately 40 per cent of the roof space was destroyed as a result of the fire.

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “The call came in at 11.44 a.m. reporting a fire in a dwelling at Carmyllie.

“It was a two storey farm house on fire. Around 40 per cent of the roof space has been destroyed by fire. The stop message came in at 1.19 p.m.

“The cause of the fire is not yet known.”
