Bakers win scone prize

Keptie Bakery of Arbroath and Letham is one step closer to becoming Scottish Baker of the Year 2014.

The bakers on Keptie Street have announced that their fruit scone has named in the top three in the region and they can now apply to be named the country’s best bakery.

More than 20,000 customers from across Scotland have voted for their favourite bakery products across six categories.

On April 2, more than 100 bakers delivered 600 of the most popular products in the land for scrutiny by a panel of 40 expert and independent judges.

Each of the categories, including the search for the best product made using California Raisins, has been divided into three regions, covering northern, central and southern Scotland.

Within each category, the judges will award regional gold, silver and bronze awards and all the shortlisted bakers will be invited to a prestigious ceremony in May where they will find out what colour their regional award will be.

All of the regional winners will also be judged on a national level, meaning they could be recognised as having made the best bakery product in Scotland.

The current bakers of the year is Stephens the Bakers of Dunfermline.
