This time of year is perfect for fresh beginnings and the opening of a brand new pool hall in town today (Thursday) is a prime example.

Shotz Pool and Snooker Club Arbroath at 2-4 John Street West opened its doors yesterday morning to the public and the owners, Marc and Ryan Fleming are hoping to make a big impact.

The brothers have a solid background in pool having represented Scotland at every level from their early teens right through to adulthood.

Shotz has tables for both eight and nine ball pool, snooker tables, dartboards, which can all be pre-booked if required, as well as a bar and lounge area.

A Facebook page carrying details of upcoming competitions has been set up at Shotz Pool and Snooker and Marc and Ryan made the following statement ahead of their grand opening.

They said: “As you may know this has been a project that hasn’t been short of setbacks, originally due to open in the summer past, so hopefully the wait has been worth it.

“We are having a Hogmanay party, being late notice we know many will have plans by now, but if not feel free to come join us to celebrate bringing the new year in. A year we hope to contribute greatly not only to the success of the Arbroath pool league, but to the growth of the game in the Arbroath community.”

Shotz has been opened on the site of a former industrial unit and according to plans there will be just under 550 square metres of playing space and a room for 19 parking spots outside.

A darts competition has been organised for tonight (Friday) to which all are welcome and tomorrow (Saturday) from 1 p.m. the first pool competition will be held, for details and to register visit their Facebook page.
