Proposals for a new development at an Arbroath industrial estate could include the creation of one of the most ambitious gyms in the area.

Arbroath architects the Voigt Partnership last week submitted their planning application to Angus Council for a mixed use development of six business units at land at Sir William Smith Road on the Kirkton Industrial Estate.

According to the application the development would encompass one structure containing three units with a footprint of 100 square metres and a larger unit of 300 square metres which would incorporate the three remaining units.

The amalgamated unit has been earmarked for leisure purposes and could be the new site of an expanded Warehouse Gym owned by competitive bodybuilder and fitness trainer Lee Page.

The proposal for a gym has been well met by other firms on the estate.

The design report states: “It is considered that the proposed gym will be of a huge benefit to the industrial estate and the owners and employees of the various business. The gym owner has conducted a survey of all the local businesses in the industrial estate and has received unanimous support for the proposed gym, with some businesses offering to take up membership for their staff.”

Mr Page is confident that his gym plan will have a positive impact on the area with its planned health supplement shop, sports therapy rooms and a wide range of gym equipment covering a number of disciplines.

He said: “This will truly be a facility that will have no peer in the Tayside area.

“Having competitive experience in powerlifting, weightlifting, bodybuilding and CrossFit, I will not only be hoping to get folk who stay in the town to use a local facility, rather than feeling the need to venture to Dundee, but also attract people from the surrounding areas to come to our facility, which would hopefully have a knock on effect to other local businesses too with these new people maybe spending money in other areas while in the town.”
