Local males asked to ‘man up’ for Relay

PLANS are now well under way for the Cancer Research UK Relay For Life 2012 event, Arbroath’s main fund-raising event of the year.

It will be held at Lochlands Cricket Ground over the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, September 22 and 23.

The chair of the organising committee is Alana Loudon who can be contacted on 07881940418 on by e-mail alanaloudon@hotmail.co.uk

There is a meeting at the cricket ground at 8 p.m. on Tuesday (August 28) for team captains, prospective team captains and anyone requiring more information about Relay For Life

Alana explained: “If you want to be in Relay but don’t have enough people for a team join the All Sorts team. Come along on Tuesday or contact me for more information regarding this.

“We have 16 teams signed up now but have only one male team. We really want some more men to step up to the challenge of taking part.

“The first lap of Relay For Life is undertaken by cancer survivors as our special guests and we would like to invite any cancer survivors along to this meeting to meet the committee and teams This year carers who look after cancer sufferers are also invited to participate.

“If you want Candle of Hope bags to dedicate to someone please just get in touch. This is a beautiful, moving ceremony at Relay where decorated Candle Bags are lit and placed around the track throughout the night. Arbroath Relay holds the record for most candle bags at a Relay event.”

She continued: “This event really is for everyone and the main aim really is to try and raise as much money as possible for Cancer Research UK.”

With less than four weeks to go, preparations for the event are progressing well with organising entertainment high on the agenda.

Already two bands have been booked to perform for those taking part and supporters and there will also be zumba classes and a silent disco.

And Alana says anybody else who would like to perform or provide a service on the day would be very much welcome.

She added: “Anybody who has a talent they would like to showcase or a service they would like to offer can get in touch.

“We are pretty flexible and can accommodate most things.

“We would also like as many people as possible to come along on the day. It really is a community event and we would be delighted to see loads of people.”

To take part in Relay for Life you can register at the Cancer Research UK Relay for Life website. Anybody wanting to perform or offer a service can contact Alana on 07881940418 or by e-mail at alanaloudon@hotmail.co.uk.
