A change on the High Street was marked as an Arbroath girl chopped the ribbon to open the newly rebranded pharmacy.
Family firm Bestway Group performed a £620 million takeover of the Co-operative pharmacy and Arbroath’s branch opened officially as Well Pharmacy on Tuesday.
Abby Smith, 13, was chosen by the staff to do the honours of opening the newly refreshed shop.
Following a diagnosis at seven months old of Cystic Fibrosis, Abby has been a client of the pharmacy ever since.
“We have seen Abby grow up and she approaches life with determination, you wouldn’t know she has the condition,” said June Taylor, Branch Ambassador.
Over the years Abby and her family have taken part in sponsored walks and charity events to help raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis charity. “I am so proud of her,” said mum Sheila. “When the staff told me they had chosen her it was a very proud moment.” Abby said it was a ‘big surprise’ to be nominated for the honour and despite having to manage her condition with preventative measures such as physiotherapy and tablets, she is adamant never to spend a night in hospital. “When I go into the hospital at Ninewells I always say ‘I will not stay over’.” Provision and services at the pharmacy remain the same.
