Zumbathon raises £4,000
A zumbathon at the sports centre on Saturday raised money for cancer charities and the skateboard park.
THE ZUMBATHON Angus event held at Arbroath Sports Centre on Saturday raised an amazing £4,000 for charity.
The eight-hour marathon fund-raiser was a fabulous, although tiring, day for the 120 participants. About a dozen children also got involved in the Zumbatomic session.
Two charities have benefited from the proceeds from the day. Organisers, Arbroath Skatepark Project, have made around £500 after costs, and Breakthrough Breast Cancer will receive at least £3,500 through participants’ sponsorship and donations made on the day, although the final figure will most likely be more.
Jillian Low commented: “As the organiser, I would like to say a massive thanks to everyone who made this the success that it was: Asda and Scotmid Supermarkets for donating vouchers for refreshments and snacks, Jivin Jim for the use of disco lights, all the instructors who took part, particularly Lee-Ann Gunn for helping with the organisation this year, my friends and family who helped and supported me, and lastly, huge, huge thanks to every one who took part, and to all their supporters who helped raise such fantastic sums for the charities.”
James Jopling, director for Scotland at Breakthrough Breast Cancer said: “Jillian’s eight-hour Zumbathon event was a huge success, and has raised over £3,500 which will go towards the vital education and research we carry out here in Scotland.
“Physical exercise is a great way to reduce the risk of breast cancer, so we thank Jillian and her supporters for their fantastic time and effort.”
