We want our record back!
AN ARBROATH theatre company will tonight (Friday) begin the process of trying to take back the Guinness World Record for the fastest theatrical production.
At 9.30 this evening, the LimeLight Company will find out which musical they must perform and in less than 22 hours they then have to rehearse, gather costumes, build the set, sell the tickets and then perform to a bumper crowd at the Webster Memorial Theatre.
The company has already pulled off the feat when last year they staged ‘Guys and Dolls’ in less than 24 hours.
But just 30 days later the record was broken by an Essex youth theatre group which performed ‘Our House: The Musical’ in 22 hours.
The local group has now vowed to take back the Guinness World Record, setting themselves a target of completing the preparations and performance of the show in 20 hours and 30 minutes.
And they are appealing for anybody who can help them with their attempt, whether it be performing, helping out with the set, selling tickets or even providing food to keep people going, to get in touch.
Chris O’Mara, co-owner of The LimeLight Company said: “This is no mean feat. Last year’s task was difficult enough, but with every record broken the time gets harder and harder, and there is far less room for error.
“We were all devastated last year when we found out the record had been taken from us in such a short space of time, but we are all determined to make sure we regain the title.
“We are so determined to break this record again, but we need the help of Angus and Tayside.
“Without a strong team of all trades, we are bound to fail. Whether you can cook a bacon roll, sell tickets, provide a raffle prize or put a set together, we need your help.”
Anybody wanting to join in with the record-breaking attempt needs to register at the Webster Theatre from 7.30 p.m. today before the big moment at 9.30 p.m. when the musical they must perform will be revealed.
And fellow co-owner Michael Carlin believes this will be the crucial moment.
He added: “Last year’s show made the task near impossible for us. Neither Chris nor I really knew the show, and the kids company didn’t have a clue.
“It just goes to prove that the musical selection is probably the most crucial turning point, and only when we find this out, will we have a strong idea about whether we can break the record or not.”
It is hoped curtain up will be at 6 p.m. tomorrow in the Webster Theatre.
