Warddykes and Timmergreens to be replaced
BOTH Warddykes and Timmergreens Primary Schools are to be replaced after councillors decided yesterday (Thursday) how to spend the £10.6 million available to the Arbroath Schools Project.
After the original plan to merge Muirfield and Timmergreens on a new site near to Hospitalfield House was axed last year, a consultation has been taking place to see how best to progress with the scheme.
At the education committee meeting of Angus Council yesterday, four option were outlined including using the £10.6 million to repair and maintain all the schools in Arbroath.
However, members decided to go with the proposal that will see Timmergreens replaced at a cost of £4 million and Warddykes replaced for £6.2 million.
The £400,000 left over will will be used to maintain and repair other schools that are most in need.
The council also added they were hopeful another £20 million would become available over a five to 10 year period for school estate in Arbroath.
This would allow for the replacement of other town schools, with Hayshead and Muirfield at the top of that list.
Arbroath councillor and depute provost Alex King said: “We have come up with a scheme with significant funding for all schools with at least four major refurbishments and money also being spent on the rest.”
