Tea with a twist nets grand

AN ARBROATH student has expressed her thanks after hosting a successful fund-raising tea at the weekend.

Abbey Scott (20), a former Arbroath High School pupil studying law at Dundee University, raised a total of £1,100 by organising a ‘tea party with a twist’ in Webmor’s.

The money will go towards Abbey’s trip to Malawi this summer when she will be working for Quest Overseas at the Joshua Orphanage near Blantyre.

Abbey said: “The afternoon tea was a great success and I raised £1,100, £700 of which will go straight to the orphanage.

“The afternoon involved close friends and family gathering in Webmor’s for an ‘Afternoon tea with a twist’.

“Instead of tea served in the teapots, cocktails were served. There were sandwiches, cakes, scones served as well.

“There was a raffle and bingo as well as really great entertainment from James and Danny, the owners.”

According to Abbey local business and groups were unstinting in their support. She said: “I have had loads of support from local businesses in Arbroath, from the Rotary Club I received £350 contribution for my funds and I received £150 pledge from the Round Table.

“For the afternoon tea I received vouchers for bingo prizes from Graham, owner of the Townhouse, Orlando owner of Azzuro and a voucher for nail treatment from Maria owner of True Identity.

“I also got all of my information leaflets printed out by Douglas from GB Print for free.”

In addition Abbey’s mum has raised £1,000 making and selling tablet meaning the fund total is now just £400 shy of her £3,000 target.

Abbey will leave for Malawi on July 19 and she will spend one month helping to build a canteen and teach English at the orphanage.

She added: “I just want to say a big thank you to all my friends and family, and in particular my parents, who have supported me and helped make Sunday such a big success.”
