Arbroath Round Table welcomed a new member to their club with Jon Bruce swelling the ranks of the service organisation.
Having read about the work that the Round Table in Arbroath do for the community Jon got in contact and was invited along to see for himself first hand what Round Table was.
He said: “Every other week there was something in the paper about what Arbroath Round Table get up to whether it is their social activities or the work they do in the community.
“I was impressed by the amount and range of work that the guys were giving back to the people of Arbroath and the surrounding area and thought I’d like to be part of that.
“I made contact with the lads through their Facebook page and it wasn’t long before they called and invited me to join the lads for a game of snooker. I have been seriously impressed by their work ethic and ability to have fun doing it.”
Malcolm Scott, chairman of Arbroath Table, did the honours of inducting Jon into the club adding: “It is a privilege to welcome new guys into Round Table.
“For many years we seem to have been a well kept secret but over the last couple of years we have had 10 men join us. Jon is a welcome addition and has thrown himself in and is a great asset to the club.
“I’d really like to thank the papers for supporting the work that we do in the community and hope that many more guys take the initiative like Jon and get in touch as they’d be most welcome.”
Jon takes the membership of Arbroath Round Table, which is for men aged 18 to 45, to 18 and if you want to get involved email firstname.lastname@example.org
Every year Arbroath Round Table carry out many fund-raising activities and the money is spent locally.
And the organisation has a number of key events for pensioners coming up in the next couple of months and they are appealing for more senior citizens to get in contact so they might be able to invite them to events in the future.
Arbroath Round Table are appealing for those over 60 to get in touch, especially men, so they can update their list of contacts for our upcoming events.
A spokesman said: “There is no criteria as such but we prefer to help those who are a little less mobile, who maybe struggle financially to do days out or those who don’t have a good social circle and would like to meet other people.
“Just some of the events we organise are match days at Gayfield with the support of Arbroath Football Club, our games night challenge and the Tablers Tea Party. Each event is fully funded by Arbroath Round Table with transport provided where required.”
