AN ARBROATH shop will be showcasing items for a special charity silent auction later this month.

Outdoor Action (Scotland) Ltd on Arbroath High Street is currently displaying some of the items that will go under the hammer at the Angus 4 Forces Charity Ball on October 22 at Carnoustie Golf Hotel.

Among the items are two prints by local artist Ray Will and another two of Robert Burns by his contemporary Alexander Nasmyth, and two days fishing for four at Monymusk valued at £2,000.

There is also a golfing glove signed by Tom Watson, a weekend for six in a Welsh cottage, a Scotland rugby top signed by the team and a cricket bat signed by England internationalist Alistair Cook, which is valued at between £200 and £250.

Chic Grant who owns Outdoor Action and is himself a former Royal Marine Commando described the bat as “quite a sought after little item.”

He added: “The money we hope to raise from this and other items at the silent auction are all for local charities.”

Bids can be made at the shop and a full list of items is also available. The proceeds of the silent auction will be split between organisations such as Scottish Veterans Residences, the Royal Marine Association and also the Arbroath fireworks fund.

The ball has been organised by Chic and Barbara Grant, Jennifer John and Valerie Hughes, and there will be music by Billy Anderson and Albany.

There are still some tickets left, to purchase one call Chic on 01241 430400 or visit him in the shop.

The Angus 4 Forces Charity Ball will also benefit other veteran’s causes such as Combat Stress, Commando 999 and HorseBack UK.
