Roads are passable as wet weather continues
At around 3pm high tide on Friday the sea at Arbroath harbour was in full rage as can be seen in our picture. At one point the water actually managed to flow into the lifeboat shed.
ANGUS Council have confirmed their roads teams are out and about clearing gullies and ditches as wet and windy weather continues to plague the area.
A weather warning has been issued warning of heavy rain and strong winds over the course of today (Thursday) and into tomorrow (Friday).
The local authority say all roads are passable and present and that they are monitoring the situation.
Flood signs and sandbags have been delivered to council yards.
The Met Office is forecasting that persistent heavy rain, driven by strong south-easterly winds, is expected across much of the Tayside region during Thursday and overnight into Friday morning.
And police say this will lead to an increased risk of surface water and river flooding as well as disruption to travel.
Snow is expected to accumulate above 500 to 600 metres and the attendant winds could lead to blizzard conditions. Large waves are also expected along the coast line.
The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) has warned of potential flooding across Scotland through Thursday and Friday.
SEPA say there is a risk of river flooding on Thursday and Friday in Tayside, Dundee and Angus. Impacts in these areas could include flooding to land and roads on Thursday and Friday.
Emergency services, the local authorities, along with SEPA and their other partner agencies are working closely together as they continue to monitor the situation to ensure they are ready to respond effectively to any challenges.
Not for the first time in recent weeks, Tayside Police is again urging drivers to take the utmost care in what could prove to be challenging and difficult driving conditions.
Anyone who is travelling through the wet weather should allow plenty of time for their journey, reduce their speed and drive according to the conditions.
This includes keeping a safe distance from the vehicle in front and using dipped headlights where appropriate.
Large puddles and pools of water are likely to collection roads in both rural and urban areas.
As such, drivers should slow down when approaching standing water to avoid risks of aqua planing. They should also give consideration to any pedestrians nearby.
