PROMISE OF SUMMER PUPPET FUN

AN EXCITING summer school of puppets and puppetry will be on offer from Angus Arts at Angus College from Monday, June 21, to Friday, June 25, as part of Learning Disability Week.

Butterfly Moon is aimed specifically at people aged 16 and over who have learning disabilities.

This week of exploration into the amazing world of puppet making, story making and puppet presentation is a collaboration between Angus Arts and Angus College community programmes.

It promises a wonderful chance to discover and enjoy the transforming creativity of making and working with puppets.

Using an inspiring array of materials and simple dynamic methods, the week of sessions will be a chance to enjoy many aspects of puppet making, creating stories with puppets and developing brief puppet presentations.

Angus Arts has over 10 years of experience of working with puppets with people of all ages. The sessions will be led by Maria MacDonell, lecturer in drama for Angus College community programmes, and Virginia Aspinwall, a visiting lecturer.

Both are co-organisers of Angus Arts, the lively local charity which offers a wide variety of arts experiences both indoors and out of doors, including a puppet festival every Easter as part of Scotland's national puppet festival.

Maria said: "It is always a very exciting process. From a variety of materials puppets emerge quickly. Puppet stories, presentations, music and dance follow on easily. It is fulfilling, creative, fun and always astonishing."

The summer school is part of a larger Angus Arts project, funded by Puppet Animation Scotland, designed to bring the many delights and surprises of puppet explorations to people of any age with special needs. Angus Arts welcomes any inquiries about this overall project.

The summer school at Angus College is in the Esk Building, Keptie Road, Arbroath. It is open to Butterflies and Dragonflies.

Butterflies are participants aged 16 and over with complex needs and Dragonflies are independent participants aged 16 and over.
