Power loss in Arbroath
Arbroath town centre was stricken by a power cut this afternoon (Thursday) leaving many businesses and residents in semi-darkness.
Shortly after 3 p.m. the area around Market Place and High Street was filled with the sound of burglar alarms and chatter as folk were drawn into the street by the loss of electricity.
The power was off for approximately half an hour before returning briefly, and then was off for another 10 to 15 minutes before it was fully restored.
A spokesperson for Scottish and Southern Energy explained: “The power went off at just before 3.15 p.m. and that affected 328 customers on the network between the Olympia and the Webster Theatre. Everyone was back on supply at 4 p.m.
“The engineers think it’s an underground cable that was causing the problem but they are currently investigating.”
The brief return to power was according to SSE a sign that work was being done. The spokesperson added: “That was them switching the power, rerouting the supply from another part of the network.
“We would just like to apologise for any inconvenience to our customers and thank them for their patience.”
