MORE details have emerged about the armed forces parade that is set to take place through Arbroath in June.

After the success of a similar parade to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Red Lichtie Spitfire, it has been decided to make the parade an annual event.

The founder members of the Red Lichtie Spitfire group have reformed as the Arbroath Armed Forces Parade group.

And now they have the task of organising the inaugural event.

Local branches of the armed forces will be taking part in the parade including veterans, serving personnel and cadets.

The parade is set to take place on Saturday, June 8, and will commence at Arbroath Abbey before marching through the town and along to Queen’s Drive where a Drumhead Service will be conducted.

Stalls from many of the organisations will be in Victoria Park to give the public an insight into their work, see demonstrations and chat to personnel.

It is also hoped a flypast can take place with times arranged nearer to the date.

A spokesperson for the organising group said: “The aims of the parade are to celebrate and raise the awareness of Arbroath’s many links with the military, to enable the public to show their appreciation as was so evident at last years parade, and to raise money for the Benevolent Funds.”

At the Red Lichtie Spitfire parade, more than 200 service people took part.

This included serving and ex military personnel along with X Company of 45 Commando Royal Marines and the attached 7 Sphinx Commando Battery.

The Arbroath Royal British Legion Pipe band also took part in the celebrations.

Volunteers who feel they may be able to assist with planning or helping on the day are more than welcome to join the other members of the group.
