Nisa work if you can get it!
AN EAGLE-EYED reader tipped us off this week to work being done to a disused supermarket.
It was relayed to the Herald that large refrigerated units were being installed at the former Haldanes store on East Muirlands Road.
The first port of call was to frozen foods retailer Iceland who have previously been linked with the East Muirlands site and have also recently bought up other former Haldanes property.
However, a spokesperson for Iceland said they were unable to confirm the East Muirlands store was part of their plans for the coming year.
It then emerged the work was being carried out by Arbroath firm Vertex RAS Ltd., who were much more forthcoming.
A spokesperson for Vertex said: “Somebody is taking the shop over. It’s going to be a Nisa store. We’re just fitting it out for a customer of ours in Crieff.”
It was also confirmed that the same customer had taken over three former Haldane stores in total, Arbroath, Crieff and Carluke.
Haldanes Stores Ltd., went into administration in June 2011 and the closure of the East Muirlands store left 15 people jobless.
The store previously belonged to Somerfield but after their acquisition by the Co-operative the store was sold off to the growing concern that was Haldanes and re-branded in February 2010.
