New Principal appointed

THE BODY responsible for steering the merger of Angus and Dundee colleges has announced the Principal Designate of the new institution.

The Tayside Partnership Board announced today (Friday) that Christina Potter, current principal of Dundee College will take on the role.

The appointment of the Principal Designate at this stage of the process is essential for the smooth transition prior to the launch of a brand new college.

Chairman of the Tayside Partnership Board, Kish Srinivasan said: “The merger process is complex and intricate.

“We have, so far, established that there are no legal or financial impediments to the two colleges merging, and we have now taken the key first step to put in place the management structure for the new college.”

Angus College will continue to be led by Principal John Burt will continue to lead the college until the new college’s ‘vesting day’ on November 1.

He said: “I look forward to working closely with Christina Potter, the Joint Executive Team and Partnership Board to help lay the foundations of an ambitious new college for our part of Scotland and to ensuring our current Angus College students continue to have the highest quality learning experience at this time of change.”

Principal Potter was appointed to her role at Dundee College in 2007 and has the benefit of 30 years of experience in further education in Scotland and England.

Coming from a background in the computing industry, with firms such as ICL, RBS and Scottish and Newcastle she began her teaching career as a computing lecturer, and has held teaching and management posts in a range of inner city and rural campuses.

She said: “I am delighted to take on this exciting challenge.

“It is a great privilege to be appointed to lead the new college following the merger which I am confident will create a truly outstanding institution for the communities of Dundee and Angus.”
