New film festival for Arbroath
Next month's gathering will feature new international film festival
A NEW film festival which opens in Arbroath next month will feature a selection of international films. The organiser, Tomas Cabla, an agricultural worker from the Czech Republic, is hoping that they will be shown either in the Public Library or the Community Centre.
The Independent International Student Festival is supported by Perth libraries, where the films will also be screened.
The programme will consist of DVDs of students' work from Estonia, the Czech Republic and Slovakia; documentary films; ecology films and also the Angus Council Recycling Centre information film.
Mr Cabla has have been in contact with the Czech Republic Consul General in Scotland, Paul Millar, and he will open the Festival, which, Mr Cabla states, is very exciting for all concerned. There will also be prizes awarded for the best films at the end of the event on July 29.
Mr Cabla, who has lived in Scotland for the past four years, explained, "I have been involved with organising the clean up of Lunan beach in 2003/4 and am also involved with promoting recycling in Angus amongst the students who work here every year. The Student Festival is non-profit making.
"It will run from Saturday, July 8, and will finish on Saturday, July 29. During that time there will be showings in Perth and a clean up of Lunan beach on either July 15 or 22."
He is interested in both films and the environment, and see the festival as the ideal way of promoting both.
