New bridge class for new players

BUDDING bridge enthusiasts in Arbroath will soon have the benefit of a new class starting later this month.

From Monday, January 21, Eric Yeaman of the Brothock Bridge Club will be running the classes to help everyone from complete novices to those needing a refresher.

Eric said: “I’ve been playing bridge for longer than I’m going to admit, although I don’t claim to be an expert.

“That may be an advantage. Experts play the cards almost by instinct: the best play is so obvious to them that they find it difficult to explain to less experienced players.

“Experts are more concerned with the bidding, but beginners should first practise the play.

“I intend to creep up on bridge by using simpler games, to develop card-playing skills.

“Then we’ll use a simple bidding system. If anyone later wants to play the game more seriously, they can easily refine the bidding system.”

Classes will run from 7 to 9 p.m. every Monday at Arbroath Bowling Club on Dishlandtown Street.

Sessions are £5 each.

For more information contact Eric on 01241 876083.
