TAYSIDE Police announced today (Friday) the officer who would fill the new area commander role.

Chief Inspector Gordon Milne will serve as the new Local Policing Area Commander for Angus.

The Chief Inspector has a long association with the county, having been raised in Angus and currently resides there with his wife, a serving officer, and their four children.

He joined Tayside Police in 1989 after working for several local firms and has walked the beat in Arbroath, Montrose, Dundee and more recently Forfar.

Promoted to Inspector in 2005 he was seconded to the team planning security for the G8 conference at Gleneagles Hotel and commanded 350 officers in his role as roads policing tactical commander.

Following this he returned to Angus as a divisional roads policing officer during which time he dealt with over 70 serious accidents, introduced police powers to seize vehicles under anti-social behaviour legislation and planned traffic management at the 2007 Open at Carnoustie.

Promoted to Chief Inspector in 2009 and conducted a review of police custody procedures and also went on to work with the Criminal Intelligence Division.

Chief Superintendent Hamish Macpherson, the Local Commander for Tayside Division, welcomed their appointment.

He said: “Residents in Angus, Dundee and Perth and Kinross can be reassured that when it comes to building strong, effective local relationships to address the issues of greatest concern, they are in good hands.’’

Chief Inspector Milne added: “I feel that I am coming home as it has always been my professional ambition to command policing for the Angus area.

“It will always be a special place for me and my family; I know the people and places well and I absolutely cherish the prospect of working with some very special police officers and police staff.’’
