Lose weight the winning ‘weigh’!

Arbroath and Carnoustie residents are invited to sign up for free weight management classes to hear about healthy lifestyles and lose weight.

‘The Winning Weigh’ is a rolling weight management programme run by trained staff from Angus Community Health Partnership.

Classes last one hour and are held weekly in Arbroath and Carnoustie.

In Arbroath they take place at the Saltire Leisure Centre every Tuesday from 10.30 to 11.30 a.m., while in Carnoustie, the town’s Leisure Centre hosts classes every Wednesday from 4 to 5 p.m.

The Winning Weigh programme is not a diet; it aims to help people change their eating and exercise habits which in turn help them to lose weight.

The interactive course is designed specifically for people who are serious about taking on the challenge of losing weight.

At each session trained staff will be available offering practical advice and encouragement to help people to adopt healthier lifestyle choices, improve fitness levels and reduce their body mass index.

Ongoing support will be available after the programme is completed, as staff will be running free drop-in sessions where people can just pop-in and be weighed, as well as have a chat.

The programme is for men and women who have a body mass index (BMI) of 25 or above.

To work out your BMI, divide your weight in kilograms by your height in metres squared. Weight management support worker Alison Stewart, said: “Winning Weigh classes are continuing to prove very popular as they are not just focused on diets.

“The programme covers many health topics and people will hear about healthier eating, eating the right amounts of food for a healthy weight, getting enough exercise and making good lifestyle choices.”
