LONDON DATE FOR YOUNG DESIGNERS

TWO FORMER pupils of Arbroath High School have been chosen to exhibit their work at one of London's largest contemporary art galleries.

Jenna Rose and Cheryl Parker, who have both just graduated from Dundee University, specialise in textiles and printing.

And they have been asked to show their work at the Islington contemporary art and design fair at the Candid Gallery in the capital at the beginning of next month.

Jenna's work focuses on interior designs with soft furnishings such as cushions and wall canvases, while Cheryl mainly makes menswear and has designed and produced a range of ties.

The pair, who are both 22 and live in Arbroath, are hoping they generate more interest in their work when exhibiting in London after impressing at various other art galleries across the country.

Jenna said: "This exhibition in London is a really big event and we are happy that we will be able to show our work there.

"I have been given a two metre exhibition space and hopefully we will get more people interested in our work and if we are lucky sell some of it."

Both designers take their inspiration from life in the city, with Cheryl focusing her work on the bright lights and nightlife and Jenna's work influenced by day to day urban living.

Currently, their work can also be seen at the new Water on the Leith bistro in Edinburgh after owners snapped up their canvases to decorate the restaurant's walls.

Cheryl, who is also mum to 11-week-old Cara Rose, says they have been surprised by the exposure they have received over the past few months.

She added: "We knew it would be tough especially as we just graduated a few months ago but we have shown our work at art galleries in Edinburgh and other places already and everybody who has seen it has been really positive about it.

"We are just trying to get more exposure and we are thinking about going into business together."

After showing their work at the Candid Gallery in London in October, the pair are hoping to exhibit at more art galleries and craft shows across the country next year.
