Keeping your heart healthy on Valentine’s Day

A FREE ‘Healthy Hearts’ information event for people living with diabetes is to be held in Arbroath next week.

The event is set to take place in Health Education Room at Springfield Medical Centre in on Thursday, February 14, from 3 until 5 p.m.

Organised by the Arbroath Diabetes Forum the afternoon is aimed at people living in the town and the surrounding area who are living with diabetes and is open to families and carers as well.

The afternoon session will be focusing on having a healthy heart and Karen Fletcher, coronary heart disease stroke prevention co-ordinator from Angus Community Health Partnership will be attending.

She will be discussing how the heart works, what coronary heart disease is and the risk factors that increase the chances of getting heart disease.

Karen said: “Valentine’s Day is all about hearts and this information event aims to raise awareness of heart disease amongst people living with diabetes.

“Diabetes is one of the risk factors in developing heart disease so it is important for diabetics to be screened. There are, however, simple lifestyle changes that people can make to improve their heart health such as eating well, being physically active and not smoking.”

Tea and coffee will be provided during the afternoon and it is hoped this event will be an opportunity for people living with diabetes, their families and carers to get together.
