Jennifer scoops sport accolade
ARBROATH Herald / Guide & Gazette chief reporter Jennifer Newton has been named Johnston Press Scotland Division’s ‘Sports Journalist of the Year’.
Jennifer’s repertoire of work for 2012, which included coverage of football, cricket and tennis, caught the judges’ eyes.
In particular, her exclusive interview with Rangers’ boss Ally McCoist, colourful match report of the Arbroath v Celtic Scottish Cup game and her weekly Press Box musings were worthy of mention.
The 25-year-old has been with the newspaper for almost four years and she keeps readers updated on what is happening locally in not just sport, but the world of news too.
Jennifer said: “On entering the awards, I was hopeful of getting a commendation, as there are so many top reporters in Johnston Press.
“To win is absolutely amazing. I can’t deny I was in complete shock when I found out.”
Group Editor of Angus County Press, and editor of the Arbroath Herald / Guide & Gazette Brian Stormont said it was recognition well deserved.
“Jennifer can rightly be proud of this achievement which I believe she fully deserves. Her dedication to the job and talent she has shown is worthy of an award and we are very proud of her.”
