FESTIVAL IN ARBROATH
ARBROATH will be the focal point for the European Environmental and Arts Festival (EEAF) which will run from tomorrow (Saturday) until August 25. The event will take place under the auspices of Czech Ambassador, Mr Jan Winkler, and is also endorsed by Angus Councillor, Alan Grant.
The festival will feature documentary films on human rights, animal rights and environmental issues and has been organised by Tomas Cabla.
The festival centre will be Oasis, Lindsay Street, Arbroath, with viewings also taking place at Arbroath's Abbey Theatre, the Damacre Centre, Brechin, the Panmure Centre, Carnoustie, the A.K. Bell Library, Perth, Fairfield Neighbourhood Centre, Perth, and the Mitchell Centre, Montrose.
The festival will feature 19 documentaries from 10 countries, including the USA, Poland, France, Denmark, China, UK, Croatia, Slovakia, India and Czech Republic.
There is also a film competition, the categories of which are - Best Film, Best Documentary Film, Best Ecology Film, Best Student Film, Best Original Film, and the Viewers' Prize. The awards are - Award of Karel Kryl, prize awarded by the festival organiser, Polish Awards Statuette and the Arbroath Award.
The opening ceremony will take place at OASIS tomorrow (Saturday) at 7 p.m., following which the film 'Vote for Me', created by the 'Why democracy' organisation, will be presented.

Accompanying events locally include an exhibition on 'Reforesting Scotland' which runs from July 28 to August 11 at Arbroath Library; a clean-up of Arbroath beach and Brothock Burn on August 18 at 1 p.m., and a charity concert for Kenya at the Oasis on August 18.
