THE ANNUAL Bully Beef Night held by Arbroath and district branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland took place in the main hall of the Helen Street clubrooms on Friday when a company of 60 attended.

Branch chairman Dallas Roy called for a minute’s silence for fallen comrades and treasurer Derek Scott said Binyon’s lines following its conclusion.

The branch padre, John Cuthbert, said Grace and the women’s section then served the rations of bully beef, neeps and tatties. After the meal Mr Roy thanked the Women’s Section and Annie Ogilvy replied.

The president, Ian Ballantyne, informed the company that this was Mr Roy’s first official function as the new chairman, then told a couple of stories before introducing comedian and singer Eddie Rose, who was accompanied by Sandy Lindsay on the accordion. Sandy played many tunes while Eddie made several costume changes.

During the entertainment raffle tickets were sold, raising £131. A print of the Commando Memorial at Spean Bridge was donated by the Royal Marines’ Association and was won twice by a couple of them. They immediately donated it back to the raffle until someone who wasn’t a member of the RMA won it.
