AN ARBROATH teenager who endured a lengthy stay in hospital is hoping to put the smile back on the faces of children who are in a similar position.

Demi Fraser, now 18 years old, was just 11 when she was attacked by a bull mastiff after pushing her younger sister Mel away from the approaching dog.

She required over 100 stitches in her face and had to undergo both plastic surgery and have some of her teeth repositioned.

During her stay in Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, Demi was helped out by the Fairy Box charity which provide young patients with toys and other gifts to help make their stay more bearable.

Now Demi, a student at Angus College, is an ambassador for the charity and is hosting a party at the Apex City Hotel in Dundee in February next year for child patients at Ninewells to give them something to look forward to.

She explained: “When I first went into hospital I remember I was scared as anything.

“But it was made much easier by receiving toys from the Fairy Box and it helps take your mind off things.

“The party next year will give the children the chance to have an escape for the day and just cheer them up.”

Demi is now appealing to local businesses who may be able to make a donation to help make the party a success.

Anybody interested can contact Fairy Box on 01382 225829.

Demi has also organised several fund-raising events leading up to the party with the first being a poker night held on Saturday, November 24, at the Cliffburn Hotel at 7 p.m. Entry is £5.
