Council wanting views on licensing policy
THE ANGUS Licensing Board is seeking views from members of the public to help with the review of its Statement of Licensing Policy, which is undertaken every three years.
The board is legally required to publish a statement of its policy and must regard the policy when making decisions about licensed premises and personal licences.
The board’s policy seeks to prevent crime and disorder; secure public safety; prevent public nuisance; protect and improve public health; and protect children from harm.
The board also considers in its policy statement whether there are too many licensed premises, or particular types of licensed premises, in areas within the county.
A number of groups will be consulted in the review process, including Tayside Police, Tayside Health Board, the Scottish Licensed Trade Association and the Scottish Grocers Federation and organisations involved with both the protection of children and of vulnerable adults.
Angus Licensing Board chairman Alex King said: “I encourage members of the public to make comments and suggestions to us as we review our statement of policy.
“We are keen to hear the views of members of the public, and they can post their views on the ‘Have Your Say’ section of the council’s website at http://www.angus.gov.uk/bestvalue/consultation/documents.cfm?myRef=654”
The consultation is open until the end of August.
Copies of the current statement of licensing policy will be made available free of charge at Angus Council ACCESS offices and in libraries.
