VIOLIN and viola instructor Heather Miranda, who teaches at seven Arbroath schools, was heavily involved in organising a Pregnancy Sickness Support craft fair which was held in Brechin City Hall on Saturday.

Heather is Pregnancy Sickness Support regional leader for Scotland and team leader for North of England and Northern Ireland

She said: “The day was a great success, attracting many locals and taking in almost £900! People also travelled from as far afield as Dundee, Aberdeen and Stirling.”

The event was to support Pregnancy Sickness Support, which is a registered UK charity working to improve care, treatment and support for women suffering from Nausea and Vomiting in Pregnancy (NVP) and the severe form of the condition, Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG).

Heather went on: “We are currently a small charity and we rely heavily on donations and fund-raising from sufferers and the work of volunteers. We are setting up a national support network for sufferers and raising awareness about the Nausea and Vomiting in pregnancy and Hyperemesis Gravidarum with the public, the media and Health Care Professionals (HCPs).

“We are also involved in ongoing research into the cause and treatment of NVP and HG and the psychological impact for sufferers and their families.

“We host an annual conference for Pregnancy Sickness and we are developing online training courses for both volunteers and HCPs. Long term we would like to see the charity grow to reflect the national need for support for these condition and if you would like to get involved or donate to support our work then please visit www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk.”

She extended special thanks to Sarah Archibald, a very special person, who put massive amounts of work into organising the event.

Heather concluded: “Thanks must also go to her lovely family, as well as all the number of kind and generous businesses and friends who supported the event.”
