Band set for successful 2013!
Councillor Paul Valentine visited Warddykes Primary School to hear an up and coming band Two for Flinching who were playing on Thursday afternoon. All of the band are presently at Arbroath Academy. The guys are, from left - Kyle Ford, Mr Valentine, Darren MacKenzie, Liam MacKenzie, Darren Stead and Josh Sim.
A YOUNG Arbroath band celebrated a successful 2012 which was all made possible thanks to the Angus Youth Music Initiative.
Following their success in taking the top spot in the Scottish Battle of the bands this year, Two for Flinching have now written and recorded their first EP.
The five piece band pop punk band - Darren Stead on vocals, Darren Mackenzie on guitar and vocals, Josh Sim on guitar, Liam Mackenzie on drums and Kyle Ford on bass – was started under the Angus Youth Music Initiative (YMI).
The initiative is a Scottish Government funded project to improve the quality and availability of musical experiences to young people.
It is run by Angus Council who provided the band with musical instruments, space, time and a platform to perform in the annual Rock Fest.
Two for Flinching are encouraging younger pupils from Warddykes Primary School to get involved in music and they performed a mini concert at the school last Thursday.
Warddykes Primary school is currently doing a bass guitar project which is also supported by YMI.
Two for Flinching’s drummer Liam Mackenzie said: “YMI is very important to us because without it we wouldn’t be a band. We were put together by the YMI project and it has taught us how to play as a band and just to be better musicians in general.”
Angus Council’s depute leader Paul Valentine, himself a keen musician, took the opportunity to join the audience at Warddykes Primary school.
He said: “Two for Flinching represent the potential that the Youth Music Initiative can unlock, with the enthusiastic support of the music teachers in our schools.”
