Awards for quick thinking officers
TWO ARBROATH based police officers have been rewarded for their quick actions after they helped save the life of a man who was unresponsive.
Police constables Laura Connelly and Jennifer Jones were recognised at a Tayside Police awards ceremony that was held on Tuesday evening.
Their awards relate to an incident dating back to June 6, last year when police received a report that a man had suffered a drugs overdose at a house in the town.
The two constables quickly made their way to the proprty where they found the man with no visible signs of life.
He clearly needed urgent medical assistance, but the ambulance attending from Brechin was still some distance away.
With no time to lose, the officers began cardiopulmonary resuscitation, with Constable Jones holding the man’s head to maintain his airway.
Constable Connelly then began mouth to mouth resuscitation and chest compressions.
The officers continued with this for about 10 minutes until the ambulance arrived and paramedics then took over.
After administering medication, the man regained consciousness.
It is said that the prompt intervention of Constables Jones and Connelly ensured the man’s survival with no lasting effects to his health.
In recognition of the actions of both officers and for the effective first aid administered by Constable Connelly, she has been awarded a Resuscitation Certificate by the Royal Humane Society while Constable Jones is awarded a Certificate of Merit from the Force.
The officer were presented with their certificates at Perth police office by Chief Constable Justine Curran and Tayside joint police board convener Jimmy Black.
