A well-known Arbroath lady was honoured recently with a prestigious award for her efforts to help the sick and injured.

Mrs Lis Hill OBE was invested as a Commander of the Order of St John at a ceremony at the Crichton Memorial Church, Dumfries, during the Festival of St John. Mrs Hill is secretary of the Angus and Dundee Area committee of the Order of St John Scotland, which is responsible for the First Responder programme of volunteer medics active throughout Angus.

The awards were presented with the authority of Her Majesty the Queen as sovereign head of the Order of St John. Also honoured was Murray McEwan, Scottish Ambulance Service, who was admitted as a member of the Order of St John for his work in developing the First Responders programme.

Bill Spence, chair of the Angus and Dundee branch of the Order, said: “These awards are related to their efforts in assisting individuals who are suffering illness, distress or are in danger.”
