Once again the Arbroath Ladies’ lifeboat Guild and their supporters have answered the ‘Shout Out’ and raised more than £5,000 at their latest event.

One of the highlights of the guild’s fund-raising calendar the ladies’ dinner was held in the Meadowbank Inn on Friday, October 3, with a great night of fine food, music and fund-raising had by all.

Grace was said by Arbroath Lifeboat Chaplain Rev. D. Purnell after which Tasmin Glass began the entertainment with a few well know songs.

By this time the company were looking forward to the excellent meal served by the very capable Meadowbank Staff.

Once replete the evening got off to a rousing start with the Grand Raffle being drawn, 38 prizes in all were won which did not include the bottles of Champagne for the Lucky Tickets. The Speakers were in fine form Mo Morrison, MC launched the evening with many funny stories which left the floor open to the main Speaker Jim Brown.

Jim is no stranger to the Arbroath Ladies’ Lifeboat Guild Dinners and he was, as usual as topical and humorous as the Ladies have come to expect. The Auction Items were many and varied and David Birse had the company enthralled with the many different ways he could encourage the ladies to part with their money.

The event was brought to a close by Tasmin singing a medley of up-beat tempos which encouraged a few of the livelier revellers to fill the dance floor.

Four members of the Arbroath Lifeboat Crew were on hand to assist throughout the evening and ensured that by midnight all of the revellers were hale and hearty and safely ashore.

A spokesperson for the Arbroath Ladies Lifeboat Guild said: “As in previous years the dinner provided an evening of fantastic entertainment. The sum raised during the evening was a tremendous £5,308.07 after expenses which goes towards helping fund and maintain the Arbroath RNLI Station as well as equip and train the fantastic crew of the Arbroath Lifeboat.

“Again the people of Arbroath and District have astounded the Guild with their generosity and made all the hard work of organising the event worthwhile. It just shows you what can be done in a small town like Arbroath. Thank you to everyone who supported the 2014 Arbroath Ladies’ Lifeboat Dinner without you we could never have had such a fantastic event.”
