Legislation passed on high hedges

The Scottish Government has passed legislation enabling householders to apply to the council for a High Hedge Notice to be served.

A householder can now apply for action to be taken in connection with a neighbouring hedge that consists of a row of two or more trees or shrubs rising to more than two metres forming a barrier to light.

They can make the application provided that they can show that the height of the hedge adversely affects the reasonable enjoyment of their property and that they have taken all reasonable steps to resolve matters. A fee of £275 will be payable.

Householders should contact the ACCESSLine on 08452 777 778.
