Learn how to save a life

HEARTSTART Discovery is offering free training sessions in emergency life support for people across Tayside.

Recent British Heart Foundation adverts featuring Vinny Jones show how to give ‘hands only’ CPR.

This technique can be used by people who are untrained or who are unable or unwilling to give mouth-to-mouth ventilations.

The advert encourages people to help by ‘phoning for an ambulance and pressing ‘hard and fast’ on the chest.

The adverts have proved very popular with the public and are a valuable addition to lifesaving techniques.

However, the ‘gold standard’ CPR as set out in the UK Resuscitation Guidelines remains chest compressions and mouth-to mouth ventilations and this is the technique which will continue to be taught at all Heartstart Discovery sessions.

Being able to perform emergency life support, a set of actions needed to keep someone alive until professional help arrives, gives a casualty the best possible chance of survival.

Courses are free of charge and no medical knowledge is required in order to undertake one of these courses.

It only takes two hours to learn the skills which may some day save a life.

It could be that the person you help may be a family member or someone close to you.

Training sessions can also be arranged, on request, for groups, organisations, clubs  and schools.
