A FRIOCKHEIM man has been honoured for his volunteer work with a nomination as a ‘Diamond Champion’.
Lamont Forbes is one of the 60 Scots singled out for their outstanding contribution to volunteering and could meet Their Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall at a special ceremony at St James’ Palace on November 29.
The Diamond Champion scheme is run by older people’s charity WRVS and supported by Their Royal Highnesses as patrons.
Over 1,000 people in Scotland over 60 were nominated for their volunteering contributions.
The 60 Scottish Diamonds will attend a presentation ceremony at Glasgow City Chambers on October 22 and a judging panel will select 10 to attend the St James’ Palace event.
Margaret Paterson, WRVS head of services for Scotland, said: “It is with great pleasure that we announce the 60 Diamond Champions from Scotland.
“They are truly deserving of the honour and it is justified recognition of the selfless work they do in their communities to help others.
“It was incredibly hard to choose 60 Diamond Champions from all the nominations we received; all the nominees are fantastic examples of the incredible volunteering work being done by older people across Scotland.”
