Carnoustie celtic rock band Gleadhraich played a key role in the inaugural Scottish Variety Gala Performance in Glasgow on Monday night.

As well as playing tracks from their new EP Definition in the show at the Clyde Auditorium, they also joined Bay City Rollers founder Alan Longmuir and the cast of musical And I Ran With The Gang on their performance of Shang-A-Lang, Scots music legend Donnie Munro on his rendition of The Skye Boat Song and US trio The Highland Divas on their set.

The band’s piper, Craig Weir, was also instrumental in getting all three of the acts to appear in the show. After being asked if Gleadhraich would take part by organiser Ross Gunning he contacted many of the VIP music acts he’s played with to see if they’d join in too.

Other performers in the charity gala, in aid of Imagine Scotland Foundation, included George Bowie, The Glasgow Philharmonia, Cat Harvey, River City actor Tom Urie, Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist Nicholas McDonald, The X Factor finalist Melanie Masson and 2016 contestant Garry Greig.

Speaking about the show, Craig said: “We were delighted to be able to help bring together such a fantastic line-up of acts for the first Scottish Variety Gala Performance. It was an honour to be playing some of the tracks from our new EP Definition in such a big show as well as joining other performers on their numbers too. We had a great night and look forward to contributing again in future years.”

Organiser Ross Gunning said: “The first Scottish Variety Performance was the biggest showcase of Scottish talent Glasgow has ever seen and Craig’s help is much appreciated.
