A FORMER Arbroath High School pupil is just one performance away from getting the chance to play a gig at London’s O2 arena.

Karen Simpson (22), along with her partner Johnny Hood have made it through to the next round of the Live and Unsigned competition, which is looking for the UK’s best act without a record deal.

The duo, known as ‘Karen and Johnny’ were wildcard winners of the previous round and had to rely on the public’s text votes to see them through the competition.

They will now play at the Mill Volvo Tyne Theatre in Newcastle next Saturday (May 12) for a place in the grand final in London.

Singer/songwriter Karen, who is a student in Glasgow is currently studying for a Masters degree.

But now she knows that she and Johnny are just one step away from the final, where the grand-prize is £10,000 in cash and £10,000 invested in the winner for publicity.
