Over 400 runners gathered in glorious sunshine on Sunday for the third annual LimeLight Colour Run at Victoria Park.
Following a thorough warmup from Sharon Stewart Zumba, the Colour Runners, resplendent in white outfits and their special T-shirts set off on the five kilometre course which wound around the park, up hills and over and under various obstacles. All the while pelted with powdered and wet paint.
The redecorated runners all received a finisher’s medal upon completion, a complementary drink, goodie bag complete with strawberries from Milton Haugh, Walkers Shortbread, Fruit Bowl dried fruit and of course the all-important paint packet for the grand finale. While they waited for that they also enjoyed Muckle Backit pizzas and T-Potters fresh fruit juices and smoothies.
As the day came to an end, all runners gathered for the countdown to the final throw, as they painted the sky with the Colour Cloud - a majestic rainbow of dust which enveloped the participants and brought the third annual LimeLight Colour Run to a close.
Event producer Mike Carlin said: “We’re so pleased how the event went, and never believed we’d be as over-subscribed with runners as we were! With almost double the number of participants from last year, we’re so excited that the event keeps getting bigger and better!”
Event director Chris O’Mara added: “It wouldn’t be possible without our incredible volunteers, and sponsors, who give up their free time and resources to help make the event such a success. We’re can’t thank them enough, as well as all the runners, and everyone who has helped with this year’s event. We can’t wait until the LimeLight Colour Run 2017 next year, with a huge twist, making the event even more exciting than ever before!”
